How to tie a tie: A tie or necktie is a symbol of honor and privilege for people for years. The history of wearing a tie is as old as humans. In this article, step-by-step guidance on how to tie a tie is given. Following steps are required to be followed for knotting a tie.

  • Step 1: Adjust the tie
  • Step 2: Pass wide end behind the tie hole
  • Step 3: Pass wide end into the tie hole
  • Step 4: Pass wide end across the tie hole
  • Step 5: Pass the wide end out of the tie hole
  • Step 6: Pass the wide end where the finger is

 

STEP 1: Adjust the tie

In the first step, put the tie around the neck and then adjust the skinny end and fat end, keep the skinny end smaller than the fat end. Then cross the wide end over the skinny as shown in the figure. Use one hand for moving the wide end of the tie and the other hand for holding the tie knot.

In step 2 take the wide end and make it behind the tie hole. The tie hole is the central point where both ends of the tie meet.

Take the wide end of the tie and make it pass through the tie hole just as shown in the figure. Make sure to see the backside of the wide end after doing this step because it is critical. If you are not able to see the backside then repeat the steps.

 

STEP 4: Pass the wide end across the tie hole

Step 4 is one of the critical steps which require high attention. In this step, you need to take the wide end of the tie and pass it across the tie hole as shown in the figure given above. Make sure to hold the center of the knot tightly.

After passing the wide end of the tie across the tie hole focus on your hand that holding the knot and make your one finger high. Now your 3 fingers and one thumb are holding the knot while your one finger is raised. Take the fat end of the tie, move its opposite side and then pass it out from the tie hole just similar to the figure.

In the final step pass the wide end of the tie from the space where you have to hold the finger. And keep pulling the wide end until the knot is tight. While pulling the knot tight make sure not to lose the skinny end. Squeeze the bottom and both tops of the knot to adjust the proper shape. To make the tie fit grab the skinny end with one hand and the bottom of the knot with another hand then do a pull and slide motion until the tie is adjusted around your neck. You are now done with tricky steps of how to tie a tie.
